The new generation of heat pumps
Compact and efficient with climate-friendly refrigerants
Apr 29, 2021 It’s time to act! The new generation of Vitocal air/water heat pumps – with particularly climate-friendly refrigerants – is the first choice for anyone modernizing their heating system or building a new one. Powered by green electricity, they produce CO2-free heat for heating, cooling and DHW generation. And they are highly efficient: with a COP (coefficient of performance) of over 5.4 (for A7/W35), they generate more than five times the usable energy from one kilowatt-hour of electricity and the heat from the outside air.
The new products at a glance
- The new Vitocal 25x-A has been specially developed for modernization. The heat pumps in monobloc design (complete refrigerant cycle in the external unit) are operated with the climate-friendly refrigerant R290 and achieve flow temperatures of 70°C. Floor heating is not required and the existing radiators can continue to be used. Thanks to their innovative hydraulics, they adapt to all conditions in modernization.
- The new Vitocal 2xx-S split-design heat pumps are the first choice for energy-efficient new builds. Their R32 refrigerant has a GWP (global warming potential) value that is two thirds lower than the R410A refrigerant still often used in conventional heat pumps.
- The clear, timeless design of the external units of the new Vitocal 25x-A and 2xx-S heat pump series blends perfectly into any environment. The precise workmanship, right down to the smallest detail, and the new Vitographit color create a modern, high-quality look.
Now with a new electronics platform for seamless service
The common feature of all units in the new heat pump generation: they are based on the innovative electronics platform that is also used in the gas condensing boilers of the Vitodens family, among others. The new electronics platform is designed for seamless networking with energy systems such as the electricity storage system Vitocharge VX3 and Vitovent home ventilation and digital services. With the ViCare app, the operator enjoys quick and easy access to their heating system at any time. The electronics platform – together with the new digital service tool Vitoguide – makes the commissioning, plant monitoring and servicing of customer plants even easier for specialist partners.
Viessmann Energy management simplifies the integration of photovoltaic and electricity storage system
If the electricity for the heat pump is generated from a dedicated photovoltaic system and stored in the Vitocharge VX3 electricity storage system, it can be accessed as required. ViCare handles the entire energy management process. In the ViShare Energy Community, environmentally conscious consumers can produce and consume their own electricity and share it with others. The contractual partner of the ViShare Energy Community is Energy Market Solutions GmbH.
Installation is up to 90 minutes faster thanks to innovative Hydro AutoControl system
The new hydraulic system ensures optimum circulation rates. Thanks to these innovation, the space required for the system is reduced by up to 60 percent and the installation time is reduced by up to 90 minutes when compared to conventional heat pumps.
Vitocal 250-A, 250-AH and 252-A: monobloc heat pumps for modernization
Air/water heat pumps in existing buildings? Modernization of heating systems is no problem with the new Vitocal 25x-A. The monobloc heat pumps easily achieve flow temperatures of 70°C – even at outside temperatures of -15 °C. This means that existing radiators can continue to be used simply and efficiently. Conversion to floor heating is not necessary.
Climate protection with green refrigerant
The green refrigerant R290 (propane) with a particularly low GWP value of 3 (global warming potential) is considered particularly environmentally friendly. By comparison, the widely used refrigerant R410A has a GWP value of over 2000. The external units of the new monobloc heat pumps house the complete refrigerant cycle. They are delivered completely filled and are hermetically sealed.
Wall-mounted and floorstanding solutions
The Vitocal 250-A is designed as a particularly space-saving wall-mounted boiler, while the Vitocal 252-A is the floorstanding compact unit with integral 190-liter DHW cylinder. The hybrid version Vitocal 250-AH is designed to supplement an existing heating system. The heat pump provides the baseload. The existing boiler is only switched on when outside temperatures are particularly low. All variants are available with outputs of 10 and 13 kilowatts (for A7/W35). Their new electronic platform with seven-inch color touch display allows simple, convenient operation directly on the unit or with ease via the ViCare app.

Vitocal 200-S, 250-SH and 222-S: the first choice for energy-efficient new builds
Modern heat pumps are among the most efficient and thus economical heating systems. With green electricity, their operation is absolutely climate-friendly. Not least for these reasons, most building owners today opt for a heat pump to heat their living spaces and to heat the water for bathing, showering and cooking. The new split-design heat pumps in the Vitocal 2xx-S range are the first choice here, given that their refrigerant is also particularly climate-friendly.
Climate-friendly refrigerant
The new split-design heat pumps use R32 refrigerant. As an efficient and climate-friendly alternative to the currently common R410A, it offers a two-thirds lower GWP value (global warming potential) and thus complies with the F-Gases Regulation for 2025.
Space-saving wall-mounted and compact units
The new Vitocal 200-S air/water split-design heat pump is designed as a space-saving wall-mounted unit. With an integral 190-liter cylinder, the Vitocal 222-S compact unit provides a particularly high level of DHW convenience. As a hybrid solution, the Vitocal 250-SH wall-mounted boiler is the ideal addition to an existing or new heating system to cover the baseload in a high level of efficiency. All versions of this heat pump range are available with heat outputs from 4 to 10 kilowatts and achieve a high flow temperature of up to 60°C. The innovative electronics platform with seven-inch color touch display enables simple operation directly on the device, via the ViCare app from anywhere and, if the operator wishes, comprehensive system monitoring via the Vitoguide digital service tool.

Ultra-quiet external units for air/water heat pumps in split- and monobloc designs
Today, external units for heat pumps must be visually appealing, flexible to install and, above all, operate as quietly as a whisper. The external units of the new Vitocal 25x-A and Vitocal 2xx-S heat pump series delivering a convincing performance on all three counts.
Attractive design
The clear, timeless appearance in Diamond Edge design and the Vitographit color scheme underscore the high quality of these weatherproof devices. The external units of the Vitocal heat pumps thus set a new standard in design and harmonize with almost any house facade.
Noise-optimized louvers allow the fan to work in secret
Are you operating air/water heat pumps in densely built-up townhouse complexes? With the ultra-quiet external units of the new Vitocal 25x-A and Vitocal 2xx-S generation, this is possible without any issue. A louvered front has been specially developed for this purpose, behind which a fan operates while “hidden away” from view. The robust sheet steel housing also prevents vibrations and contributes to the unit’s smooth operation. As a result, these innovative units achieve extremely low noise pressure levels of 30 dB(A) (Vitocal 2xx-S) and 34 dB(A) (Vitocal 25x-A) in noise-reduced mode and at a distance of four meters in free-standing installation.
Flexible installation
The external units can be installed directly on the house or freestanding on the property. Suitable mounting brackets are available for this purpose. Matching restrictors for concealing the brackets ensure a uniform design. The connection to the internal unit can be made on the rear or underside.
Benefits for trade partners
- Flexible installation options
- Non-visible connections on the back/underside
- Coordinated accessories
- Short installation times
- Quick commissioning via ViStart app
- System monitoring via Vitoguide app
